Owning a home is something to be proud of, and you want nothing more than for it to be perfect.

What to Consider When Going Solar

Are you and your home good candidates for solar energy?

While there are several advantages to renewable energy sources like tax credits, net metering benefits, and low utility bills — it is important to know if you meet the qualifications and if you are going to realistically reap all the benefits available.

Solar energy is not a practical option for everyone! It can depend on a couple of factors that might put you in a position to not benefit you or give you any significant savings. You can read about some of those factors here.

At Blue Raven Solar, we love to emphasize the word “investment.” While solar panels can be expensive, there are several large returns saving you between $10,000 and $35,000 in the long run. However, the initial upfront cost can still be intimidating. So, to assist with the initial cost, Blue Raven Solar has created three different financing options: Blue Power, our award-winning BluePower Plus+, and SmartStart

Finding a Highly Credible and Trusted Solar Company

Another must-know is the company you are working with and their experience including past services.

  • Do they install residential and commercial, or do they specialize in one?
  • Do they offer an option to lease a system (you can read about why leasing is often not a good idea here)?
  • Have their past customers been satisfied with their work and process?

Consider these questions and conduct your own research when choosing your solar installers and the best option for you. We are proud to say Blue Raven Solar is one of the top solar installers in the nation, with over 5,000 5-star reviews across several platforms. We exclusively install residential systems. As experts in our field, we only offer system ownership so you can have full autonomy over your energy. Our entire business is built around giving homeowners the best possible solar experience through superior customer service and high-quality equipment. We value every word of feedback.

Now we have covered some of the essentials to be aware of, let’s discuss some of the benefits of going solar. There are so many you can discover, so we will go over some of the more important ones.

Installing Premium Equipment and Inverters

To get the highest efficiency and energy production system, you’ll need to research and know the best type of equipment. There are a few different types of solar panels: monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and thin film. Learn about the differences between each, the uses, and advantages and disadvantages of all three

All the equipment we use is updated and technologically advanced as possible.  Blue Raven Solar teams install tier-1, black, monocrystalline panels on all the homes we service, and we use these panels because we believe they are the best option on the market.

For panels to produce energy in a way your home can use it, they need an inverter to change the currents. We use industry-leading microinverters connecting to an app on your phone or computer so you can monitor your panels’ production. These microinverters are top-of-the-line and extremely user-friendly, so you can understand your system easily and hassle-free. If you have any questions about your inverter or system production, you can contact our support team for help.

Potential Savings & Benefits

Federal Solar Tax Credit

Beginning in 2022, you can receive a credit of 30% on your federal taxes for going solar. This credit increased from 26% and is being extended for the next 10 years.

Millions of homeowners across the nation have seen this credit and the potential changes and quickly made the decision to go solar. Those customers have already experienced massive savings by going solar at all, and they have seen even more when tax season comes around. So, the time to go solar is NOW. Find out more about the federal tax credits and how to qualify for them

Net Metering

Another benefit you should know about is net metering and how it works. Almost every state offers net metering policies, which give a huge advantage to solar owners.

Solar panels produce energy throughout sunny hours of the day, and sometimes, you do not need all the energy, so the excess is sent into the utility grid and goes to power another electrical system near you. Net metering was put into place to credit homeowners for the excess energy they produce, and depending on the state you live in, you may get a check or a credit for the clean energy you provided to your local grid.

Not sure if your state has net metering?

You can see a list of states with policies, and you can learn about your state’s specific policies and potential tax credits.

Making the World a Better Place Through Environmental Contributions

We could never leave out the massive environmental benefit going solar brings. Solar panel systems have an average lifetime of 25-30 years, and over those years, your system can offset over 150 tons of carbon dioxide emissions contributing to air pollution. That’s like planting 4,000 trees, powering 18 homes for a year, or avoiding over 150,000 pounds of coal from burning.

As solar becomes more and more accessible, we hope for a cleaner Earth and a more sustained environment for future generations. Solar is the most abundant and ready-to-use renewable energy source on the planet.

In fact, the sun provides almost 100,000 times the amount of power the Earth uses each year. Imagine what we could do if we could harness all of that energy! We have tried to imagine it, which is why solar is the fastest-growing renewable energy resource in the world, with new technologies and developments appearing each day.
