Virginia Beach is Going Solar
English settlers first landed in Virginia Beach in 1607, but the “Resort City” was not founded until 1887 as a seaside resort. Rich with American history, Virginia Beach is a popular travel destination as well as a safe, family-friendly and booming coastal city. Plus, with its “Goldilocks Weather” (not too hot, not too cold), it is the perfect place for environmentally-conscious residents to make the switch to clean renewable energy.
Virginia Beach residents want to keep the air and water clean and the environment flourishing. But there’s another reason people are installing solar panels systems. Virginia Beach and surrounding area homeowners are saving big on utility bills.
Solar cuts down the amount you pay for electricity to your utility company. You produce the electricity your home needs and the surplus energy goes back into the power grid. Solar panels free up your hard-earned money to let you and your family do more of what you enjoy.
Between a 30% federal tax credit and other local incentives, solar has become a no-brainer for Virginia homeowners. Learn about the solar savings available in your area and whether solar panels are right for you and your home.

How do we describe our love for Virginia? The birthplace of the nation is known for its rich history, east coast charm, and friendly citizens. Virginians also love saving money, which makes solar a no-brainer.
The city of Virginia Beach might be considered a resort city by many, but almost half a million residents call it home thanks to its friendly atmosphere, beautiful beaches, homes on the waterfront, and cultural attractions. The weather in Virginia Beach is also moderate year-round, with warm but not too warm summers, and winters that are mild and short-lived. This makes Virginia Beach not only a great place to live, but also a the perfect place for homeowners to make the switch to solar panels and produce clean energy for their homes.
Blue Raven Solar is among the most well-reviewed, fastest-growing solar companies in the nation. As a full-service in-house solar provider, we do not outsource our work to any contractors. This means a speedy installation—1 to 2 months in most cases—and superior customer service for you. We take care of design, permitting, engineering, electrical, installation, paperwork, and everything else, making sure the customer experience is a seamless and positive one.
While there are many reasons why Blue Raven Solar is in Virginia Beach, these are the some of biggest:
With a goal to bring the state’s utility-delivered power to 100% renewable energy in the next 25 years, Virginia is dedicated to renewable energy efforts. The Virginia Clean Economy Act of 2020 hopes to bring the state’s utility-delivered power to 100% renewable energy by 2045, and directs the construction of 16,100 MW of solar power and onshore wind by 2035.
With our no money down, 18-months free solar power, and energy production guarantee, we knew we could help people like you save money with solar like never before. Plus, when you own your panels, local and federal incentives like net metering, a property tax exemption for the state, and the federal solar tax credit will help you save additional thousands of dollars on your solar system.
While there are many local solar companies to choose from, we believe our commitment to better solar technology helps Blue Raven Solar rise above other solutions.
Solar is one of the fastest growing industries in the world right now, so it makes sense that there are hundreds of solar companies offering solar panels for homeowners. Many of these companies advertise “free” solar panels, but the majority of these companies won’t advertise their latest and greatest promotions are actually for solar leasing deals. With solar leasing deals, the homeowner doesn’t actually own their panels, the solar company does.
At Blue Raven Solar, we know the advantages of solar ownership far outweigh the somewhat misleading advantages of the “free” leasing options (which is why we only offer ownership deals). What is the difference between leasing and owning solar panels?
There are really only two options for residential homeowners who want to put solar panels on their roof: leasing or ownership deals.
Leasing deals, which are also known as power purchase agreements (PPAs), allow homeowners to install solar panels without putting down a penny. With no upfront costs and no installation fees, you might be thinking: what’s the catch? Like leasing a car or renting a home your monthly payments won’t actually go towards owning or paying off the panels. This means the solar company who installs the panels will be the official owner and use the homeowner’s monthly payments to pay off the panels. In most cases, these monthly payments will be less than the homeowner’s original electricity bill, so the homeowner should be saving around $10-$30 a month by choosing a leasing deal. All in all, leasing deals could technically be considered free, but they won’t save homeowners substantial money over the system’s lifetime.
When a homeowner leases solar panels, they don’t actually own the panels nor the power that they create. The solar company holds the rights to the panels and sells back the energy they create to the homeowner at a fixed rate (almost always including price escalators throughout the PPA contract). Most solar companies project savings rates for leased systems without accounting for expected increases in their rates. This means their projections are inaccurate, and like monopolized utility companies, their rates will likely increase by more than 1% every year.
The other option for homeowners considering solar is solar ownership. Within these deals, homeowners have the option to pay for their systems out of pocket or take out a loan to slowly cover the cost of the panels. While most companies offer ownership deals for $0 down and no installation fees, some homeowners are turned off by the concept of paying tens of thousands of dollars for a product that will save them a few thousand dollars a year. In the short term, owning solar may seem like a lopsided deal, but in the long run the numbers always prove that owning solar is a more economic option for homeowners.
At Blue Raven Solar, we only provide ownership deals, which means we don’t compete with our customers to monetize tax credits and then sell large bundles of PPA contracts to institutional investors.
Blue Raven Solar customers get the most value out of their solar panels. Our team of highly experienced solar specialists help our customers understand how our financing programs work and help them take advantage of any local, state, or national solar incentives. What sets us even further apart from the competition is our BluePower Plus+ financing program. If a customer is unable to pay the entire cost of the solar panels from the get-go, we have set up a financing program where we cover our customer’s first 18 months of loan payments.
Homeowners will save thousands in their first year and a half of owning their solar panels, which will help them pay for a large portion of their system. By combining the 18 months of solar loan payments with the huge savings opportunity from the 30% Federal Income Tax Credit (ITC) and other local incentives, Blue Raven Solar customers can shave thousands of dollars off of the overall cost of their system paid without having to put a dollar of their own money down.

How solar energy works is a combination of technology, economics, and customer service. But it begins with the sun beaming enough energy to earth each hour to power global civilization for a year. With the right equipment, you can harness your share of it and power your life on sunlight. Blue Raven Solar combines all those into a hassle-free experience to make going solar almost as easy as flipping a switch.
Photovoltaics, power inverters, net metering, and photons from the sun create a clean, renewable power source for homeowners. Switching to solar shrinks utility bills and your carbon emissions while boosting the value of your home.
Falling equipment prices, lucrative tax incentives, and attractive financing make solar energy more accessible to average homeowners than ever. In today’s energy market, rooftop solar often pays back its initial price in just a few years.
Going solar happens in steps: consultation, design, permitting, installation, inspection, and energization. Each step involves its own process. When you go solar with Blue Raven Solar, our team works hard to keep the whole experience trouble-free.
At Blue Raven Solar this is the heart of what we believe: our nation’s current power generation is not sustainable. As a nation, we still get over 60% of our electricity from the burning of fossil fuels.
Regardless if one believes in global warming or not, we can all agree the toxic pollution these carbon-based energy sources spew into the atmosphere is not a good thing. The simple test is this: would you like your family to live next to a coal-fired power plant?
Standard electricity is produced from fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. When burned, these fuels emit chemical gases causing pollution and harm to our environment. Fossil fuels are not only destructive to the environment, but they are also a limited resource. Solar electricity is by far one of the cleanest forms of energy.
Virginia homeowners are jumping at the chance to become a part of the renewable energy movement. We’re excited to help you throughout your solar journey and hope to help you make a positive impact on the environment while saving you thousands on your electricity bill! As America’s #1 solar installer, we continue to grow throughout Virginia, so please get in touch to find out how we can serve you.
We provide solar panels to many areas within and surrounding Virginia Beach, including Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton, and more.
