Anyone who has stepped foot in the Beehive State can agree that Utah’s landscape is breathtaking. The mountains, arches, Canyonlands, waterfalls, valleys and lakes make Utah every outdoor-lover’s paradise.
In the winter, Utah attracts thousands of tourists to ski the “Best Snow on Earth,” and in the summer, Utahns and visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming, and boating. Utah residents also enjoy a relatively low cost of living along with low crime rates and a booming economy. If the Beehive State loves the outdoors and saving money, it’s no wonder that more and more people are choosing to switch to clean, renewable energy!
Utah is set to install 17 times the amount of solar panels they’ve installed over the last five years. As a part of the Great Basin desert region of the United States, Utah receives lots of sunlight and not a lot of precipitation, making it a perfect candidate for homeowners to purchase solar panels and generate their own power.
Knowing if solar ownership, lease, or a power purchase agreement (PPA) is the best option for your home can be difficult and confusing. While other solar companies lease out their solar panels and reap all of the financial benefits and tax credits, Blue Raven Solar ensures it’s the homeowner benefiting most from their solar panels. Whether you buy your solar panels outright or decide to finance them, owning your panels will allow you, the homeowner, to save thousands of dollars on your monthly utility bill and tax credits.

Here at Blue Raven Solar, we know deciding whether a solar system is right for your home usually involves a lot of number crunching and research. To go solar, it has to make sense financially for a homeowner’s specific situation. And if you live in Utah, which is known for the best snow on earth, it might not strike most people as a great place to have solar. But, many people forget that Utah is a desert and receives more than the average annual sunlight for the United States. Even in the winter, many days are cold and very sunny, which is the perfect environment for solar panels to produce power efficiently (the best internal temperature for a solar panel ranges from about 40 °F to 55 °F. This means that the ideal weather for solar panel efficiency is no clouds, wind, and low temperatures). With plenty of sun throughout the year, many homeowners in Utah are hopping on the solar train and saving hundreds on their monthly electricity bills.
Most Utahns use Rocky Mountain Power, who utilizes a net metering program that buys back any excess electricity for a slightly lower than retail rate in exchange for credits to use during less sunny months. Other utilities offer similar net metering rates.
Utah is one of the few states that offers a solar tax credit. Utah’s particular credit allows solar buyers to be eligible for a credit worth 25% of the purchase and installation costs of their system. The credit maxes out at $400 for systems installed in 2023.
Solar easement laws make it so that you can enter into an agreement with your neighbor, allowing you to have continued access to sunshine.
With the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) of 30% and local incentives, Utah residents are jumping at the chance to become a part of the renewable energy movement. We’re excited to help you throughout your solar journey and hope to help you make a positive impact on the environment while saving you thousands on your electricity bill!
Another aspect to consider when you decide to go solar is the impact it can make on the environment. In its lifetime, the average residential solar system will offset the energy produced by burning over 80 tons of coal or 175 tons of carbon dioxide. The energy generated is also equivalent to planting 4,000 trees. So yes, solar panels make an impact and help our planet, and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference.
Less than 3% of the current U.S. population are enjoying the benefits and savings of solar energy. Our joy is knowing that Blue Raven Solar customers are saving money and reducing their carbon footprint. We want the same for you.

“This process was very simple start to finish. All design details and cost were laid out from the beginning. The installation team was respectful, friendly, and quick. Blue Raven took care of all the permits and HOA approvals. This process was so smooth – unlike a previous solar system installation experience we had. At the beginning of the year, we also received a call to remind us to claim our tax credit when filing taxes! I would definitely recommend Blue Raven!”

“Blue Raven folks were courteous, professional, and informative from start to finish. Don explained financial and system details thoroughly. The company took care of all requirements — recommending an excellent roofing contractor, getting permits, HOA approval, and installation of the system. They kept us informed of status via email throughout. The installers were professional, quick, and very helpful explaining all the system including setup of new smart thermostats. They also were diligent in cleaning up after. We will gladly refer others to this team.”

“Free power!
When we bought our first home in Colorado we were keen on going as green as possible… We got a quote from another solar company, whose plan seemed poorly designed and would not produce 100% of our electricity usage. When we met with Blue Raven, it was a totally different story. The design made sense, and was estimated to cover 114% of our usage! Installation took only 1 day! As soon as March we saw the production numbers jump through the roof. As of June 1 we’ve had 3 months of 100%+ production and our electric bill is as low as it can go (we are now only paying for the $15/mo utility connection fee). Blue Raven even pays the loan for the first 18 months to ensure you aren’t paying for electric and the loan simultaneously. Great service, great people, great system. No complaints!”

“I wasn’t sure that adding solar to my house made sense, but the Blue Raven salesman showed me how it would work and what a good deal it would be. Blue Raven showed me how their installation was affordable and made financial sense. I was also impressed with the quality of their materials and the overall system projected performance. Their process worked smoothly even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. They used safe practices during the installation and were ALWAYS prompt, arriving when they said they would and finishing on time. While we did have a bit of a delay from the original timeline because of permits and inspections, that part of the process was beyond Blue Raven’s control. Now that the system is up and running, I couldn’t be happier.”
