CUSTOMER FAQ’S

What do I need to do to maintain my solar panels?

Solar panels require very little upkeep, but there is some occasional maintenance and inspection to help ensure optimal performance. You should wash your panels with water when there is built up dirt or dust. Inspect your panels on occasion to look for any visual defects, and check for rust on the mounting. How does net metering work?

Net metering is a billing mechanism that gives you credit for the electricity your solar energy system is adding to the grid. During the daylight hours, your system will generally produce more energy than your home is using. As a result, the excess energy is transferred to the grid causing your electricity meter to run backwards. This acts as a credit against the electricity consumed at night or when your home’s use exceeds the system’s output.

How do I know what is covered under my warranty?

You can refer to your installation agreement for all warranty information.

What voids my warranty before the expiration?

We advise our customers to avoid tampering with any part of the system. If you believe there is an issue with your system, please call us immediately so we can send one of our technicians to your home. Opening the electrical boxes or messing with the inverter may result in your warranty being voided.

How do I claim the federal tax credit?

The Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) encourages the use of renewable energy by providing a tax credit to owners of an energy property that meets established performance and quality standards. A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of income tax you would otherwise owe.

While most customers who qualify for BluePower and BluePower Plus+ have a large enough tax appetite to take advantage of the full tax credit, consult your tax advisor for advice on your specific situation.

Roofs typically need to be replaced every 20-25 years depending on the type of roof. Our support team will be more than happy to provide you with a quote for the cost of removing and reinstalling your solar panels. Reach our Support team at 800-377-4480.

Why is my power bill showing a different production level than my monitoring app?

The difference in your production level in these two different locations is a result of how your system is hooked into your home for maximum efficiency. As your panels produce power during the day, they will channel the energy directly into your home and as that energy is being used. This means during the times when you are both producing and consuming power, the energy from your panels will run directly into your home to supplement your consumption. This results in the power traveled directly into your home not reporting to the power grid to be recorded by your utility company.
